Overview
According to reports, Google is working on a new high-end laptop under its Pixel branding, known as “Snowy.” This actually comes back to the company’s laptops business that it left deserted for several years. The last Pixel laptop was Pixelbook Go back in 2019. The forthcoming device seeks to take the mantle from the likes of Apple MacBook Pro, Dell XPS, Microsoft Surface Laptop, and Samsung Galaxy Chromebook.
Very recent reports suggest that Google has progressed out of the paper/pencil phase and now has a dedicated team building this laptop. Internal communications indicate that it’s benchmarking against competition in its class, which likely will mean the use of premium materials and advanced specifications.
Probably the most interesting aspect of the Pixel laptop is its operating system. While there were many speculations that it would run on Chrome OS, recent information suggests that Google is going to change direction and use Android instead. It might bring closer the abilities of Android and Chrome OS. This new Android version, optimized for laptops, is envisioned to include a richer keyboard and mouse interface, support for displaying on external monitors, and multiple desktop environments.
It should come out with slick features of high refresh rates and high-resolution screen, capable of efficiently using productivity and entertainment applications. With Google extending its ecosystem beyond smartphones and tablets, the Pixel laptop marks an important milestone in allowing users to have a more integrated experience from device to device.
This should establish Google as a high-end laptop player in its own right, one consumers can enjoy powerful hardware coupled with integrated solutions. Expect specifications and release dates to trickle in over the course of development.
