Overview
People at XiaomiTime say the basic Redmi K100 is called “athens” inside the company and its model number is Q11. The better Redmi K100 Pro Max is called “songyuan”. Its model number is Q11X. This change to “X”, for the best model makes sense. Redmi stopped using the “U” suffix year when they started using the “Max” name. It is a thing but it shows that Redmi is changing how they do things with their best phones. The Redmi K100 and Redmi K100 Pro Max are getting these names.
These codenames are not just made up they usually give us a clue about what’s coming next. If we look at what has happened we can expect these to only be available in China, at first just like the K90s were before they were sold all around the world.
Flagship Chipsets: Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 and Gen 6
The thing that is really exciting about these phones is what is inside them. Both of these phones are expected to be powered by Qualcomms generation Snapdragon 8 Elite family. The regular K100 phone might still use the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 which’s a very powerful chip that is better than the chips, in most current top of the line phones. But the K100 Pro Max phone is a story. It is rumored that it will be the first phone to use the new Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 chip, which has not been officially announced yet.
People are talking about the name that Qualcomm has chosen for the Gen 6. This name has been talked about for months. The new Gen 6 is supposed to be better than the one. It is supposed to be more efficient and have artificial intelligence capabilities. The Gen 6 is also supposed to be faster than the one. This means that people can play games smoothly and the camera can process pictures faster. The battery is also supposed to last. All of these things are supposed to be in the Redmi phone.. We do not know for sure if all of this is true because it is just a rumor. We have to wait until Qualcomm says something, about the Gen 6 chipset.
Global Launch as Poco F9 Series?
The Redmi K-series phones usually change their names when they are sold in countries. It looks like the K100 is going to do the thing. The Redmi K100, which is also called “athens” might be called the Poco F9 Pro when it is sold outside of China. The Redmi K100 Pro Max, which is also called “songyuan” might be called the Poco F9 Ultra. This is what happened with the K90. The K90 and K90 Pro Max were first sold in China in October 2025. Then one month later they were sold in other countries with the names Poco F8 Pro and Poco F8 Ultra.
People who like Poco phones have something to be happy about. This means that Poco phones with good specs might be sold at low prices in many places. Xiaomis smaller brands are very good at making phones that work well as the expensive ones but they do not cost as much. If what people are saying is true the F9 phones could change the way thingsre with phones in the middle of 2026. Poco phones could really make a difference. The F9 duo, from Poco might be very popular because of this.
Expected Timeline and What to Watch For
We do not have any firm dates.. If we look at what happened with past releases it seems like the new Redmi phone will come out at the end of the year. The K90 series was released in China in October 2025. So the K100 series will probably be released around the time maybe in the last few months of 2026. This timing works with Qualcomms plan for the Snapdragon chips and it gives Redmi enough time to put the new Gen 6 chip, in the K100 series.
You should check Weibo and Xiaomis official channels for some clues. When there are launch events in China people usually find out some things beforehand like what the displays will be, like what the cameras are capable of and how good the batteries are. The K90s had big batteries and very bright screens so I think the K100 will have even better batteries and screens.
Why This Matters for Xiaomi Fans
In a market flooded with incremental updates, the K100 series feels like a bold step. With potential Gen 6 power in a Pro Max model, Redmi could challenge the likes of Samsung and OnePlus in performance-per-dollar. Whether you’re team Redmi or Poco, these leaks have us counting down the days.
