Overview
Foldables have really improved over time. That annoying line on the screen is still a problem. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 might be the one to fix this issue with its use of two very thin glass layers, which makes the line less noticeable by 20%. They showed this off at CES 2026. This new technology could be used by Samsung and even Apple for their foldable phones, which makes me think that we might finally get phones without those annoying lines, on the screen.
Galaxy Z Fold 8’s Crease-Busting OLED Upgrade
There is a report from DealSite and it says that the Galaxy Z Fold 8 will have a really cool screen. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 will have a kind of screen called dual ultra-thin glass OLED panel. This is better than the Galaxy Z Fold 7 because the Galaxy Z Fold 8 has this glass on both the top and the bottom. Usually the Galaxy Z Fold 7 just has it on the top. Samsung Display showed off a version of this screen that does not have a crease in it at CES. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 might be available, in the summer of 2026. It could be really great.
You can expect the crease depth to be 20% less. This is because of the way the layers are put together now which’s smarter. The light also spreads out better. The backplate is new. The new backplate has holes that were made with a laser. These tiny holes help when you fold it so the stress is spread out evenly. This helps fight wear over time. It is not magic or anything. It feels like a big deal after people have been complaining about this for years. The crease depth is really important. Now it is about 20% less, which is great.
Dual UTG: Samsung vs. Apple Twist
Samsung Display is making screens for Samsung Electronics and Apple. They are making some changes. Apple wants to use a glass screen for its first iPhone that folds because it wants the screen to be really smooth. What about Samsung? They are thinking about using a metal backplate with tiny holes made by a laser so their phone can bend without breaking easily. This means the fold in the screen will look a little different, over time for the Samsung phone and the Apple phone. Samsung phone and Apple phone will have screens.
This thing with UTG started as a rumor, about Apple. Now it seems like Samsung is involved too. Why is that? The reason is that UTG is proven to work it is not expensive. It can be used on a large scale without needing any new and unusual materials.
Challenges and What’s Next
Samsung is taking their time. Thinking this through. They have to balance a lot of things like how heavy the phone’s how to keep it from getting too hot making sure they can make enough of them and keeping the cost down. If they get it right the Samsung Z Fold 8 could be a big deal for phones that fold. The Samsung Z Fold 8 might come out in the half of 2026 and it could have a really nice and clean screen, on the inside.
Foldables are maturing fast—durability was the last hurdle. Dual UTG feels practical, not gimmicky. Fingers crossed it pans out; we’d all love book-style phones that actually look seamless.
